Philosophy of Education

The philosophy of Shalem Christian Academy is based on the Word of God and all the educational and spiritual goals of our school are set forth in the Christian Doctrine.   We believe all Holy Scriptures are inspired by God and serve as the ultimate authority in all matters of belief and behavior. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21).

We value Bible-centered teaching and believe it is the fundamental basis of everything we do,
and it is the standard that guides us in all areas of our lives.
Our school provides students with a Christian education that reflects a desire to guide them to
a personal experience with God and to serve the community and the country. All the concepts presented to our students go from a biblical point of view and will assist them in the practical application of these Christian principles in their daily life and in decision making in the future.
The Philosophy of Shalem Christian Academy has been created to help students in their spiritual and academic growth. This philosophy is incorporated into our Statement of Faith.

Statement of Faith

  • We believe the Bible to be the inspired, infallible, authoritative, and inerrant Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21).

  • We believe in one God, the Creator of all things. Yet this God is manifest in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God has limitless knowledge, limitless power, and limitless presence. In His holiness, He shares with us His grace and mercy (Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4; Job 33:4; Psalm 90:2, 139:2-4; Luke 1:37; John 1:1).

  •  We believe in the deity of Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His sacrifice and His death on the cross, His Resurrection, His Ascension to the right hand of God, His personal return in power and glory (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; Mark 16:19; Luke 1:35; John 2:11, 10:33, 11:25; Acts 1:11; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Hebrews 2:9, 4:15, 7:26; Revelation 19:11).

  • We believe the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He glorifies Jesus Christ in all that He does. He convicts the world of sin and bears witness to the power of Jesus Christ, He indwells, guides and gives believers power so that effective service for Christ can be accomplished. He is the agent by whom Christ baptizes all believers into His body.  He is the seal by whom the Father guarantees the salvation of believers unto the day of redemption. He is the one who illuminates believers’ hearts and minds as they study the Word of God (John 15:26, 16:7; Acts 5:3-4; Romans 8:9, 26; 1 Corinthians 2:9-12, 12:12-13; Ephesians 1:13-14).

  • We believe that man was created in the image of God. Being tempted by Satan, man sinned and was cast out of the Garden of Eden, thus infecting the entire human race with sin, resulting in our separation from a holy and just God (Genesis 1:26-27, 3:1-19; Isaiah 59:2; Romans 5:12).

  • We believe in the absolute necessity of regeneration for salvation, because of the exceeding sinfulness of human nature; that men are justified only by faith in the shed blood of Christ; and that only by God's grace and through faith alone are we saved (John 3:16-19, 5:24; Romans 3:23, 5:8-9; Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 3:5).

  • We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ (Acts 3:19-21; Romans 10:9-10; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11; Ephesians 1:7).

  • We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Galatians 3:26-28; Ephesians 2:18; Philippians 1:27).

  • We believe the true Church is made up of those who have experienced the forgiveness of sins and received the gift of God’s eternal life. They are empowered by the Holy Spirit to testify of Jesus Christ and to make disciples (Matthew 28:19; Acts 1:8; Romans 6:23; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11).

  • We believe that God works today through the local church, carrying out the Great Commission and the Great Commandment in communities around the world. It is through the local church that God’s compassion is shown to those in need. Through the celebration of baptism and the Lord’s Supper, we declare a relationship with Jesus Christ, remembering Him until He comes. Membership in the local church is through a profession of faith in Christ Jesus and the baptism (Matthew 28:19-20; Romans 6:1- 11; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26; James 1:27).

  • We believe in return of Jesus Christ. We believe that only God knows the moment of Christ’s return, but the Scriptures clearly state that we are to joyfully anticipate His coming with watchfulness and careful living (Matthew 24:42; John 14:2-3; Acts 1:11; 1 Corinthians 15:51-55; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 John 3:2-3).

  • We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; those who are saved receive eternal life and those who are lost receive eternal condemnation (John 5:28-29).

  • We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female.  These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God.  Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of a significant part of the image of God within that person (Genesis 1:26-27).

  • We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman (Genesis 2:18-25; 1 Corinthians 6:18; 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4).

  • We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, fornication, homosexual, behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, sexual abuse, rape, and the use of pornography) is sinful and offensive to God (Matthew 15:18-20; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10).
